Interviewing

Preparing for a Health Profession Program Interview

After an initial review of your primary application, secondary application and entrance exam score, health professions programs invite candidates for an admissions interview. This interview is your opportunity to present yourself in the best light possible and showcase your authentic self. Receiving an interview invitation indicates that you are a viable candidate on paper and the program is eager to learn more about you as a person.

Be prepared to discuss any aspect of your application, including your motivations for pursuing this field, your specific interests, your strengths (striking a balance between confidence and humility) and your weaknesses (addressed honestly yet constructively). Additionally, stay informed about current issues in the profession, as these may arise during the conversation.

When preparing for your interview, consider these guidelines:

  1. Research the program: While you may have conducted some preliminary research about the program before submitting your application, it is essential to become well versed in it's mission, requirements, opportunities, resources and values ahead of the interview.
  2. Prepare for commonly asked interview questions:
  3. Consider your questions for the program: What do you need to know about this program to decide whether it is the right fit for you? The interview is a valuable opportunity to ask direct questions about the student experience, opportunities for research and clinical work, supportive resources and more.
